Apple May buy Beats for 3.2 Billion (Unconfirmed)

By David Docekal, The Hypercapitalist

The notion that Apple may be branching out even more by buying a third party brand has brought back memories of Apple of the 90s. Without Steve Jobs, Apple in the 90’s was making all kinds of products: Printers, scanners, digital cameras, tablets/PDAs (Remember the Newton?) and licensing out their Mac software to third-party PC manufacturers.

And what happened?

They almost went bankrupt.

Why? because rather than focus no innovation in their core business, they spread themselves too thin and diluted their brand. In 1997, Steve Jobs put a stop to that. Granted they branched out slightly with the iPod, iPad and Iphone but those were tightly researched, innovated and filled voids in the marketplace. Does apple need to have a headphone business? no.

What they need to do is create a TV and soon. Smart TVs are the next wave. Apple is in prime position now to do with a TV that the iPhone did back in 2007.

There have been rumors for years but no actual product. A TV running iOS needs to be out there and fast. Make 2014 the year of the TV. Allow networks to create apps for their content. Let local TV stations create apps for their content as well.

The future is knocking on the TV industries door. Apple needs to be the one to answer.

Comcast & Clear Channel Should Merge

By David Docekal, Editor The Hypercapitalist

Comcast (CMCSA) has become the largest cable operator in the United States, the third largest phone provider (now they have an agreement with Verizon Wireless to bundle cell service) and one of the largest media companies in the world. Before acquiring NBC Universal, they made an unsolicited and unsuccessful bid for The Walt Disney Company (DIS) in 2004. After the failed Disney Bid, General Electric (GE) agreed to sell their controlling stake in NBCUniversal to Comcast in 2009. Comcast has been integrating the NBC branding into all of their properties.

Comcast currently has a major TV network, numerous cable channels, content distribution, movie studio and even sports teams at its disposal.

It is still missing one key thing though after all of that: Radio.

Comcast would still be missing another item: An Outdoor Advertising network (Electronic Billboards) but we are gonna hit two birds with one stone with this solution.

The company that should be targeted here is Clear Channel. Clear Channel Communications (Private) is a major player in the radio industry. Owning over 850 stations, the company would be a perfect plug-in for Comcasts other properties. The massive radio platform and outdoor advertising business would be a perfect fit for NBC. The network could expand on to IHeartRadio and the 12 channels the company leases from SiriusXM (SIRI) to resurrect the NBC Radio Network.

The outdoor advertising would compete directly with CBS which owns billboards across the country.

Maybe someday we will see a Comcast/Clear Channel combination. Time will tell.

Fringe and Harvesting the Alternate Universes Resources…. Thats how we roll in this universe.

By David Docekal, Editor The Hypercapitalist

I’ve been watching the TV show Fringe and catching up on all the episodes I haven’t seen. It is really not a bad show. In fact, the science behind some of the fiction is based on actual theories in the science community. Of course some of it seems a little “out there” but remember, it is TV.

When the main characters begin traveling to the alternate universe, I started thinking about how an alternate Earth could be used to our advantage. There are plenty of resources over there that we could use. Why not setup a doorway in the ocean for ships to travel back & forth to bring useful matter from the other side?

From what I’ve seen of the show, the Earth in the alternate reality is pretty much like ours. There is plenty of oil, coal and other elements just waiting to be harvested. The inhabitants of the other Earth shall be duly compensated for their labor in helping us prepare the resources for shipment. It probably would not be substantial compensation as traveling to another dimension would expectedly hurt profit margins.

Now bringing all of these resources to our side would cause some distress to our friendly neighborhood physicist. This is because universes have a way of balancing each other out. This is called the equal-mass rule. Mass traveling to our side would have to made up some how on the other.

I propose a Hypercapitalist solution to this: Send them our trash.

Old appliances, junked out cars, food wrappers. Anything. It would be a very specialized job for someone to calculate the amount of valuable resources and compensate with trash.

Where would they put this trash?

The people of the other earth have much more advanced technology…. they’ll figure out what to do with it.

All things being equal: Lets send ’em our junk!
